A Pen Pal Program

October 15, 2015 Kimberly Willis Holt

When my friend, teacher Renee Nicolo, read an advance copy of Dear Hank Williams she came up with the idea of getting pen pals for a Tennessee classroom she sometimes worked with and having the two classes read the book simultaneously. I remember thinking what a wonderful project. With the help of a librarian, I was able to connect Renee's Tennessee class with a class from The American School of Doha.

Unexpected things resulted because of sharing this book and friendships formed from two entirely different worlds. I asked Renee if she would share the experience. Check back tomorrow to read Renee's account of the journey.
